Privacy policy
Tzkia · Last updated 24 October 2026
The short version
- You can use Tzkia without an account. Then everything stays on your phone and we receive none of it.
- If you make an account, we store what you ask us to sync, such as your prayer log, so you can change phones.
- Your exact GPS position never leaves your phone. If you sync, we store your area rounded to about 1 km.
- No adverts, no tracking, and we never sell your data.
- You can delete your account and all of its data from inside the app at any time.
Who we are
Tzkia is a prayer, mosque and Ramadan app run by Talha Zaheer and Natasha Card, based in the United Kingdom. In this policy, "we" and "us" means Tzkia. We are jointly responsible (the data controllers) for the information described here.
Questions or requests: support@tzkia.com.
Using Tzkia without an account
Your settings, town, prayer log, fasts, journal and reminders are kept only on your phone. We cannot see them.
- Location. If you allow it, your phone works out your position to calculate prayer times, the qibla direction and nearby mosques. Tzkia rounds it to about 1 km and keeps it on your phone. You can choose a town by hand instead.
- Sensors. The rakat companion uses your phone's light and motion sensors to count rak'ahs. This happens on your phone and is not recorded or sent anywhere.
- Reminders. Prayer, suhoor and iftar reminders are scheduled on your phone.
- Quran text and audio. When you open a surah or recitation, the app downloads it from AlQuran Cloud (alquran.cloud). Like any website, their servers receive your IP address. We do not send them anything about you.
- Mosque and directions. Mosque information comes from our own directory, built on OpenStreetMap data. If you tap "directions", your map app opens with the mosque's location.
If you create an account
An account lets you sync between phones and join circles. You can sign up with an email address and password, or with Sign in with Apple. If you use Apple and choose "Hide my email", we only receive Apple's private relay address.
What we store
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address and password (stored only in scrambled, hashed form) | To sign you in and to contact you about your account |
| Your name, as you typed it | To show your name in the app and in circles you join |
| Your area (rounded to about 1 km) and town name, prayer time method, Asr school, Hijri adjustment and chosen mosque | So your prayer times are the same on a new phone |
| Prayer log, fasts, tarawih, journal notes, qada counts and Quran memorisation progress | To sync your records between phones |
| Records of giving that you add (cause, amount, date and note) | To keep your own giving record. Tzkia never takes payments. |
| Moon sighting reports (seen or not, region, date and note) | To help confirm the start of Islamic months |
| Requests to add or manage a mosque, including your role and contact details | So we can check with the mosque before giving anyone access |
| A notification token for your phone | To deliver notifications such as nudges from your circle. It is removed when you sign out. |
Circles (the Together tab)
Circles are private groups that you join only by invitation. Inside a circle, members can see:
- your display name and photo (if you add one);
- what you choose to share. You can pick nothing, milestones only, or your prayers, and you can change this at any time;
- prayer sessions you start or confirm, and reactions and nudges you send.
Nobody outside the circle can see any of this. If you report a circle for safety, harassment or spam, we keep the report so we can look into it.
Religious information
Prayer and fasting records can show your religious beliefs, which the law treats as a special category of data. We process them only because you have chosen to sync them, which is your explicit consent. If you do not want us to hold them, use Tzkia without an account, or delete your account.
Our legal reasons
- To run your account and the features you use: to provide the service you asked for (contract).
- Religious records, location, photos and notifications: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in the app or in your phone's settings.
- Safety reports, preventing abuse, and keeping the service secure: our legitimate interests in keeping Tzkia safe.
Who else handles your data
We never sell your data and never share it for advertising. We use a few trusted services to run Tzkia. They may only use your data to provide their service to us:
- Supabase: hosts our database, sign-in and photo storage. Your data is stored in Stockholm, Sweden, in the EU, which UK law recognises as giving the same protection as the UK.
- Expo (650 Industries), Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging: deliver notifications to your phone.
- Apple: if you use Sign in with Apple.
Expo, Apple and Google are based in the United States. Where data goes there, it is protected by the UK's approved safeguards, such as the International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK–US data bridge.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while you have an account. When you delete your account, your data is deleted straight away, including your circle memberships and photos. Copies in our hosting provider's backups are removed within a short period after that. If you sign out, your phone's notification token is removed.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you can:
- see a copy of your data;
- correct it;
- delete it. In the app, go to Profile → Account → Delete account;
- take it with you in a common format;
- object to, or ask us to limit, how we use it;
- withdraw your consent at any time.
Email support@tzkia.com and we will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Tzkia is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you think a child under 13 has made an account, email us and we will delete it.
Security
Data is encrypted on its way between your phone and our servers. Each person can reach only their own records, plus what circle members have chosen to share with them.
Changes to this policy
If we make an important change, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when this policy last changed.
